Nature Spirits Devas
Spirituality Hinduism
The Mahadevas with the assistance of multitudes of angelic
Devas protected and provided daily guidance
to Hindus over the ages. Hinduism recognized the
valuable contribution of the Nature Spirits and the Devas (Shining Ones,
Mahadevas) to the
overall development and harmonic balance of daily life in India and the planetary evolutionary
spirals of the Hindus.
The Natural World Landscape, the Divine
Forest and the Sacred Rivers were enlivened and hallowed by the presence of
the Nature Spirits. The elemental beings of air,
water, fire and earth enlivened and sanctified all the Days and Ways of Hindu
spheres of existence.
Although the Nature Spirits
were themselves an integral part of the Angelic Interstellar Lifewaves, they had
a greater ability to manifest on and to function in the denser vibrational
frequencies of the universal continuum than the light beings generally
categorized as Angels.
The ancient
Hindus recognized that the most important function of the Nature Spirits or elementals of air, earth,
fire and water was their charge to be builders of form. As such they become the
catalytic generators and steadfast sustainers of the organizing patterns of all
growing and living things.
The Hindus saw that
metamorphic change and synergistic transformation was continually occurring
throughout the Natural World. A fragile flower became a
fortifying fruit. A pinecone fell to the ground and grew into a lofty tree with
soaring branches. A caterpillar encased itself inside a cocoon and emerged later
on as a butterfly.

Diverse seasonal festivals honoring the Natural World Devas
and Mahadevas were held annually in different regions of India. Batukamma
(Bodemma) was a spring festival held during Aswiyuja (September/October) that
concluded as Durgashtami two days prior to Dussera.
Bodemma (Batukamma) was celebrated by Hindu women in the
Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh with lovely floral arrangements of layered
seasonal flowers called Batukamma. Batukamma like the one in the picture above
with twelve concentric layers of flowers symbolized cone shaped potter's clay
and conical mounds.
Since this Hindu festival honored
the splendor of Gauri, the fair white mother goddess of womanhood, Hindu women
wore jewelry and silk saris; while, young girls wore Langa oni two-piece saris.
In the morning, Hindu men gathered seasonal
flowers like alli, gunuka, lotus and pumpkin from the Natural World landscape
for the women to fashion into Batukamma in the afternoon.
In the evening the local women gathered together and performed
a group circle dance around the Batukamma they had fashioned during the
afternoon. The women synchronized their dance
steps and clapped their hands in unison as they sang uplifting soulful Batukamma folk
songs for several hours.
Afterwards, the locale Hindu
women took their spring festival Batukamma to nearby lakes or ponds. Then the women once again performed their unified
synchronized dance and sang their folk songs before setting the Batukamma afloat with their prayers for familial blessings as the spring festival concluded.
