Nature Spirits Fairies
Ancient Cultures Celtic
Leprechauns were usually cheerful
male shoemaker's who were guardians of various kinds of treasure including the
proverbial pot of gold. Leprechauns could be suspicious of humans who were overly inquisitive
regarding whatever they were safeguarding.
The Nature Spirits that were
called the Grass Elves, the Seaside Elves and the Wood Elves were industrious
caretakers who diligently maintained the bushes, the grasses, the plants and the
seaweed on the shoreline; as well as, the trees that were not inhabited by a
Tree Spirit. Elves normally travelled around in troop like groups which could be
rather large in size at times.
When they were not dashing
around the lawn, the countryside or the ocean's edge, the Elves enjoyed sitting
together on bushes, on tree branches and on the shoreline at lands end.
Tending on the small side from one to six inches in height on average with large
hands and feet, they appear to be for the most part attired in garments that
glisten and resemble the materials they work with.
For instance, Grass Elves wear
tight fitting green garments, while, Wood Elves, often wear one piece garments
the color and consistency of tree bark. All of the Elves had one-pointed,
organizing intelligence which they used to thread their thoughts together before
sending them out like connectivity bubbles.

The Grass Elves were totally
engrossed as they walked around the trails of their grass forests. The Seaside
Elves focused their attentions on the cellular processes of the seaweed as they
played nearby. The vibrancy of the the Celtic Natural World was portrayed in the
painting above of the glittering fairy hosts circle dancing to celebrate the
glories of the divinely imbued landscape.
The boundaries between this world and the Otherworld were adaptable, fluidic and
malleable. All mortals had the ability or aptitude to cross over the thresholds
between lands and realms and to travel back and forth between them. During
Beltaine and Samhain the boundaries betwixt and between worlds disappeared for a
time, for a spell.
Celtic spiritual
traditions included deeply held beliefs in an afterlife, fairy mounds,
immortality, magic, nature spirits and supernatural and mythical beings and
monsters who made their home in the Otherworld.
Woods and Sacred Groves were so sacred to the Celts
and played such a significant role in their overall cultural existence that at
one time the Celtic heartlands in Northern Europe and Southern Germany were
almost entirely covered with trees.
