All Muslims believe in six articles of faith. The first article of faith that Muslims believe in is in One, unique and incomparable God, the creator of the Universe who was the Protector, the Mighty, the Merciful, the Knowledgeable, the Wise, the Loving... The Quran mentioned around 100 beautiful names for Allah through which Muslims might recognize and understand Him and His Universal responsibilities. The second article of faith Muslims believe in is in the Angels created by the creator of the universe. The third article of faith Muslims believe in is in a chain of prophets through whom Allah's revelations were brought to mankind. These prophets include Adam, Noah, Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Job, Moses, Aaron, David, Solomon, Elias, Jonah, John the Baptist, Jesus, and Muhammad, who was the final one, who summed up all that had been revealed before. The fourth article of faith Muslims believe in is in the revealed books including the Quran, Torah, and the Bible. The fifth article of faith Muslims believe in is in a Day of Judgment with individual accountability for actions.
The sixth article of faith Muslims believe in is
in divine destiny where God had complete authority over human destiny, and, in life after death.
Islam, along with Christianity and Judaism, traced its origins to the prophet and patriarch Ibrahim (Abraham), since the prophets of all three religions, Islam, Christianity, and Judaism, were descended directly from his sons - Muhammad from the elder son Ismail (Ishmael), and Jesus and Moses from the younger son, Isaac. The word Islam meant complete submission to God's will and was derived from a word that connotated peace. Muslims believed that conscious surrender of one's whole being to the guidance, law, and will of the One God, Allah, would bring one security and peace. In the Islamic faith, the Prophet Muhammad actualized the Will of God as revealed to him in the Quran, and, embodied the Will of God by his living example in the Sunnah. Imams, Amirs, and Caliphs carry out this tradition of Islam by conveying it to each succeeding generation. In Islam, the Quran and the living example of the Prophet satisfied both mind and heart and formed the foundation of a way of life where the spheres of law, economics, and politics surrendered to the central creed of the oneness and uniqueness of Allah.
Islam today is the religion
and way of life for one billion people of diverse races, nations, and cultures
worldwide. There are Muslim communities
not only in Arab countries, but, also in Indonesia, Asia, Africa, China, the
Americas, and Europe.
