The Mahadevas with the assistance of multitudes of angelic devas protected and provided daily guidance to Hindus over the ages. Hinduism recognized the valuable contribution of the Nature Spirits, the Devas (Shining Ones), to the overall development and harmonic balance of India and the planetary evolutionary spirals of the Hindus. The Landscape, the Divine Forest, and the the Sacred Rivers were enlivened and hallowed by the presence of the Nature Spirits. The elemental beings of air, water, fire, and earth enlivened and sanctified all the Days and Ways of Hindu daily living. Although the Nature Spirits were themselves an integral part of the angelic interstellar lifewaves, they had a greater ability to manifest on and to function in the denser vibrational frequencies of the universal continuum than the light beings generally categorized as angels. The ancient Hindus recognized that the most important function of the elementals or the Nature Spirits of air, earth, fire, and water is their charge to be builders of form. As such they become the catalytic generators and steadfast sustainers of the organizing patterns of all growing and living things.
The Hindus saw that
metamorphic change and synergistic transformation was continually occurring
throughout the Natural World. A fragile flower became a
fortifying fruit. A pinecone fell to the ground and grew into a lofty tree with
soaring branches. A caterpillar encased itself inside a cocoon and emerged later
on as a butterfly.
All of it happened with the unheralded help of the Nature Spirits who seamlessly spun and wove all the myriad interconnections, while, maintaining the intricate balance and continuity of the divine template for universal unfoldment. Like humans housing their souls temporarily in a human body or biochemical shell to further the expansion of their individual consciousness, the elemental nature spirits house their spiritual essence within the confines of the etheric substance of a particular element. The ancient Hindus knew that being an elemental one of the evolutionary spiral options available to the Nature Spirits. The elementals accomplished their work by converting etheric thought designs or Dreaming intentional images into physically manifest patterns. Manifold deities and Mahadevas, all the goddesses and gods, were revered by the Hindus. With their many different names and qualities, they were really different forms of the one, all pervasive, supreme being of Hinduism.
For instance, Candra was an Epic and
Puranic Hindu moon god named Candra who drove a chariot across the sky pulled by
ten white horses. Portrayed with a club, a lotus, a prayer wheel, and a sacred rope, he was the keeper of the sanctified,
golden elixir soma cup. He was also a Dikpala guardian of the northern direction and the planetary alignment with the North
