Essus Kingu was the Breton-Celtic Continental warrior god Essus and the Mesopotamian Babylonian-Akkadian warrior god Kingu. As Essus, he was a Breton-Celtic, Continental, Germanic god revered in such diverse locales as Brittany, Germany, and Roman Gaul. Essus was a nature immersed Shaman and forest adept who was also associated with the underworld. Depicted felling a tree with birds in its branches, he was also carried a superlative spear and a powerful staff. As Kingu, he was a Mesopotamian Babylonian-Akkadian warrior god who was known mainly as the second consort of the primordial ocean goddess Tiamat. Tiamat was revered in Babylon from around 2000-200 BCE. Mentioned in the creation epic "Enuma Eliš" and cuneiform texts, she was also depicted on glyptics, plaques and votive stelae. When Tiamat as a salt water goddess mated with her first consort, the underground fresh water god Apsu eleven monstrosities were produced so Enki destroyed Apsu on Marduk's orders.
Enraged and bereaved by the death of Apsu, Tiamat
then exhorted her next consort, the warrior Kingu, to wage a war of vengeance
against the forces of Marduk.
