Bragí (Brag, Brage, Bragi Boddason inn gamli), The Old, Most Awesome and Foremost of Skalds, and Eloquent Chief of Men and Women, was the epitome of the bardic minstrel. Revered as a Nordic Icelandic god of poetry from around 700 ACE until about 1100 ACE, long bearded Bragí was mentioned in the Prose Edda of Snorri and the Icelandic Codices and portrayed on carvings. As the Viking patron of fluent poetic expressiveness and articulate persuasive inspiration, Bragí held an impressive command of language, as well as, a keen comprehension of the nuances of wisdom inherent in words.
