Heathenry Ásatrú Heathens honored two groups of dieties: the Aesir, goddesses and gods of the tribe or clan associated with crafts, order, and kinship; and the Vanir, goddesses and gods of fertility and the forces of nature, who were not part of the clan but associated with it. The Aesir were a tribe of goddesses and gods that included the gods of air and fire: Odin, Thor, and Tyr. They were contrasted with the tribe of goddesses and gods of earth and water, the Vanir: Freyr, Freya, and Njord. Sometimes this term was used as a general reference term for all the deities. An ancient battle between the Aesir and the Vanir ended in a draw. The Vanir were known for their wisdom and predictive ability, the seidhr, a magical mind altering technique is ascribed to them. They were viewed as peaceful goddesses and gods to be called upon often to ensure fertility and good harvests. They were complex deities, however, since the Freya was also known as the patroness of warriors and Freyr was himself an intrepid warrior, as well as, a cross-dresser.
The two major groups of
Heathenry goddesses and gods are, the Aesir, sky deities of power, war, and
wisdom; and the Vanir, earth and sea deities of fecundity, fertility, and
riches. The Scandinavian and Germanic Heathens revered many goddesses and gods.
Many of the Heathen goddesses and gods, such as Bäldér, Bragí, Brynhilde, Eir, Forseti, Freya, Freyr, Frigga, Gersimi, Habonde Holda, Heimdall, Hermod, Hnossi, Idúna, Magni, Mithrandir Mimir, Nänná, Nerthus, Njord, Odin, Ostara, Rota, Saga, Siegfried, Sifa, Skuld, Thor, Týr, Ull, Urdhr, and Verdhandi, are now serving the peoples of the planet for the most part as Hierarchs of the Twelve Universals Rays. Heathenry Heathen Ásatrú as a religion focused on the discovery and the comprehension of the mysteries and magic of the land itself, with the Heathens honoring the Nature Spirits of the waters, trees, and rocks, more than the mythos of the gods and goddesses. Gathering in kindred groups for bloats, the Heathen folk often made an outdoor altar of a cairn of stones and used images of the Heathen deities made of clay and wood. An Earth based faith, Heathenry Heathen Ásatrú mythos included the belief that they were the offspring of the union of the Sky Father and the Earth Mother and lived in one of the Nine Worlds, Midgard. The Heathenry Heathen Ásatrú goddesses and gods resided in Asgard, the uppermost world.
