Hermes was an extremely complex, mutable, and versatile individual with a penchant for solving puzzling perplexities and for transforming by reconciling opposites. Hermes was later portrayed by the Romans as the winged footed Mercury.

As Mercury (Mercurius, Oneicopompus, Psychopompus), he was revered as a psychopomp messenger god from around 400 BCE - 400 ACE.

Venerated at the Circus Maximus in Rome, Mercury was mentioned in the Virgil Aeneid. He was also depicted in carvings and sculptures. The primary yearly festival that honored him was the Mercuralia, which was held in Rome in May.

An embodiment of the wind, he was credited with using a tortoise shell to create the first lyre. As Oneicopompus, Mercury oversaw the world of dreams. As Psychopompus, Mercury guided souls after death.

Mercury also had a winged caduceus rod that was empowered with the ability to resolve arguments and disagreements. He also was portrayed wearing "talaria" winged sandals and a petasus cap.

Hermes also travelled and sojourned in Mesopotamia where he was known as the Sumerian god Gibil and the Akkadian god Gerra, who was a Fire and Light god who protected others against dark wizardry...Deities Gods Goddesses
