According to Chinese traditions all natural occurrences can be categorized as one of Five Elements and Correspondences. The five parts of the sky (mu, huo, tu, jin, shui) or water, fire, wood, metal, and earth, also correspond to the main organs and orifices of the body. These Five Phases or wuxing five goings encompass both a sheng generating cycle and a ke overcoming cycle. For instance, wood generates fire in the generating cycle; while, metal overcomes wood in the overcoming cycle.
