According to the teachings of Kongzi, the motive for change must be right. It must be good for the whole, as well as, the self. A moral self was cultivated through a path of virtue where Yi-Jen-Li were integrated into righteous benevolent propriety. Kongzi's teachings also have a deep reverence for the powers of Heaven and Earth that regulate nature and effect the course of human events.
Some of the basic tenets of Daoism are: Non-contention, Non-action, Non-intention, Simplicity, and Wisdom. According to the Non-contention Way of the Dao, problems were solved by peaceful means rather than with conflict and violence.
According to the Non-action Way of the Dao, when one was attuned to the Dao ond did less and accomplished more. According to the Non-intention Way of the Dao, virtuous deeds were performed without regard to reward.
According to the Simplicity Way of the Dao, everyday living was made uncomplicated and effortless. According to the Wisdom Way of the Dao, transcend the limits of logic were transcended by using intuition.
Insights come from living
the Dao rather than book knowledge; Humility, the more you learn, the more you
realize how much you do not yet understand; Duality, all worldly qualities are
defined by the existence of their opposites, something is loud only by
comparison to something that is quiet.

Daoists believed that people are by nature, good, and that one should be kind to others simply because such treatment will probably be reciprocated.
The goal of everyone is to become one with the Dao. Tai Chi, a technique of exercise using slow deliberate movements, is used to work all parts of the body and massage the internal organs.
People should develop virtue and seek compassion, moderation, and humility. One should plan any action in advance and achieve it through minimal action.
Daoist sages pursued a long life and virtual immortality by seeking mystical union with the great pattern of nature and its Dao. Becoming nameless, formless, and simple, they gain virtuous power.
