The likelihood that Mary Magdalene was the wife of Jesus and bore him a daughter after his Ascension was expounded upon in the 1982 book "Holy Blood, Holy Grail"; as well as, the 2003 book "The Da Vinci Code". If this Holy Grail, Royal Bloodline continues today, then the surviving offspring of the Sangreal lineage, like Mary Magdalene, would also have a unique and possibly profound understanding of the true teachings of Jesus Christ.

Although mentioned as early as the Third Century, the Gospel of Mary with many pages missing was re-discovered in 1896 in an apocrypha New Testament gnostic text, the Akhmim Codex in Cairo, Egypt. In the surviving fragments of the Gospel of Mary, Peter was depicted as an envious rival who coveted the leadership role amongst the followers of Jesus.

The veracity of her testimony in regard to the teachings of Jesus was challenged by Andrew who expressed his disbelief that Jesus would entrust sacred knowledge to a woman; as well as, his unwillingness to accept a woman as the successor of Jesus. In the Gospel of Mary, Matthew supports her testimony over the objections of Peter and Andrew.

Overall the Gospel of Mary was more hopeful and gnostic in focus. Her gospel alluded to the possibility of transcendental understandings and elevated states of consiousness, that would make personal ascension possible for the apostles; as well as, others that followed the true teachings of Jesus.

The other recognized gospels were written long after Jesus Christ's death. Each gospel told the story of his life and/or his teachings; but, also reflected very different ideas and concerns that mirrored the perspectives and times of their different authors.

The Gospel of Mark tradition began with Mark, a disciple of Peter, who wrote down the elements of the oral tradition of Jesus' life and teachings as a narrative. Both Matthew and Luke patterned their gospels after Mark's.

Although this gospel wove together the travels, miracles, mission, and teachings of Jesus, the primary focus was the service of his ministry and the events that lead up to his Messianic death. The effects on the community of the failed Jewish Revolt against Rome significantly influenced this gospel.

In regard to the Gospel of Matthew, Matthew wrote his gospel for a Jewish Christian community in conflict with the Pharisees, so he focused on presenting Jesus as a teacher who was even greater than Moses.

Beginning with the genealogy of Jesus as a son of Abraham and a true man of Israel who came to fulfill the law and the prophets, Matthew drew on many symbols from Jewish tradition, for instance, delivering five sermons from a mountaintop about the teachings of the law - similar to the five books of the Torah...
