Central Fire, the fire within substance (eclectic, inherent, qualitative), was hidden in the heart of matter. To the alchemist it was internal and engendering. Celestial Fire, the fire of divine will (powerful, pure, clear-cut), was knowable only by its actions. To the alchemist it was gentle and ethereal. Secret Fire, the fire within us, (kundalini, radiating, intense). To the alchemist it was an external catalyst for change. As a science, Alchemy also deals with the material realm of minerals, plants, animals, and metal, since matter and spirit are interconnected like two sides of a coin.
In addition to Fire, the elements
of Earth, Water, Air, and Ether also contain archetypal and alchemical
properties: Earth is linked with tangible manifestation, physical materiality,
fertile creativity, copper ore, and Conjunction. Water is linked with cleansing
ablution, fluidic purification, osmotic luminosity, the metal tin, and
Dissolution.
Fire is linked with initiative action, sacred vigor, dynamic transformation, the metal lead, and Calcination. Air is linked with manifest spirit, vital communications, sympathetic vibrancy, the metal iron, and Separation. Ether is linked with quintessence, the space-time continuum, the vital principle of collective universality, the magnetically radiant Archaeus, and Mysterium Magnum. All forms are held within the womb of the world.
Fire, earth, air, and water
commingle and combine in a myriad of patterns as they spring forth from the
